Expanded Nature - Écologies du cinéma expérimental

If experimental filmmakers "broaden" the artistic field by exploring the powers, modes of dissemination or even performance of the moving image, in the age of the Anthropocene, these practices hold out the hope of an altogether different expansion: broadening our experience of nature.
Applying flowers to the film, burying the film, inventing observation devices, letting the camera be affected by natural forces, engaging the filming body in a symbiotic relationship with the environment, reconstituting ecosystems on projection: the ecologies of experimental cinema proposed here constitute forms of practice and engagement that awaken a heightened sensitivity to the living through cooperative links, entrust existing others with the roles of subjects and agents of filmic processes, and finally reshape the economy of film-making. The result is an ecology of perception, medium and production, and a multinaturalism that helps restore our sensitive link with the living.
Expanded Nature - Ecologies of Experimental Cinema addresses the technical, aesthetic and anthropological issues of cinema, and considers how filmmakers and collectives from different parts of the globe form communities with other non-human beings, and use their films to deconstruct human privilege. At the crossroads of disciplines, anthropologists, philosophers, filmmakers and artists, researchers in visual studies come together to investigate another history of cinema, written from the point of view of nature.
