Description

An anthology of the very numerous theoretical and critical texts on experimental cinema and moving images written by Yann Beauvais, in parallel with his films and his activities as a programmer and curator, published in magazines, catalogs or collective works, in French, English, Portuguese, German, etc.

Bringing together texts published since 1979, this work draws up an impressive cartography of past and present experimental cinema. It retraces the history of its authors and its places, questions the work of light, space, editing and sound, questions the conditions of projection and narrative forms. He is interested in found footage and samples, the practices of the filmed diary, LGBT and queer cinema, music. He dialogues with filmmakers in France, England, Germany and North America, but also in Taiwan, Brazil, Central and Balkan Europe, etc. Throughout the pages, he demonstrates above all the vitality of film as an aesthetic and political practice that can challenge both artistic and social forms.

“This book, imposing and necessary, initiates new questions and new perspectives. It constitutes a rich testimony of those who persist in transforming our ways of seeing. »
Mildred Durán Gamba, Art Critic
