Description
Isao Yamada began his artistic career with Shuji Terayama's theater company, Tenjousajiki. In 1974, he was appointed as a member of the art team for Terayama's feature film, "Denen ni Shisu" (Pastoral: To Die in the Country). As a director, Yamada has created several works, including "Anmonaito no sasayaki wo kiita" (I Heard the Whisper of the Ammonite, 1992), "Jouhatsu Tabinikki" (The Odyssey of the Soul, 2003), adapted from an essay by Yoshiharu Tsuge, and "Shutorumu undo Doranku" (Sturm und Drang, 2014). In addition to his film work, Yamada is also known for his activities in manga, painting, and graphic design. The calligraphic fonts used in his experimental films are all drawn from his own handwriting.
