Description
Somewhere in the Eastern Bloc an industrial accident occurs, people organize and begin decontamination. Alternating abstract image loops and catastrophe, gas-masked figures wander through the rubble. The artifice of orchestrated calm is reworked, the material manipulated through photochemical processes and the image in a performative mode is placed in tension with analog sound.
The work is based on found 16mm images processed through various laboratory techniques - internegative printing, flatbed printing of short loops in positive and negative.
The premiere took place at Mains d'Oeuvres, Saint Ouen.
As part of Maison d'hôte numéro quatre, XB-21 will be renewed through a print that explores the transformation and expansion of cinematic performance into a publication that plays with binding and folding as visual elements incorporating the foundation of the performative act with multiple projectors.
