Description
Thirteen rare films presenting pre-computer abstraction, using a variety of techniques including early oscilloscope experiments, color organs, hand-drawn sound, animation drawn directly on film, painted strips, and optical printing. Many films are preserved and available in new HD transfers. These films come from the Center for Visual Music archives.
"We need a new form of kinetic visual art — a form that unites sound, color, and form."
— Mary Ellen Bute, 1936.
