Description
The human imprint persists both in the imagery of skaters caught merging with their imminent environment and in the detail of its presentation, resulting in a certain play on the line between subject and object; reduced to an impacted representation, bodies and landscapes interact, respond, compose and dance at each moment a little closer to resembling anonymous graphic elements—and then again, as light reflects better on the silver paper, inscribing itself as a positive actor determined to continue influencing the narrative. Different moments, contexts and readings thus call for as many variations on the setting and staging, highlighting various aspects of the depicted scenes as well as Vutuc's darkroom work, and what truly reveals itself is only the sum of all the human singularities contained within the work. From man-made urban landscapes to their cognitive deciphering and the resulting Sisyphean reaction from the skaters, through the medium itself, the fractured history seeps into our present day—before certain fragments naturally fall back into shadow.
