Description
"Maurice Lemaître's infinitesimal and supertemporal films call into question the very definition of cinema: they replace the finished work with an open proposal addressed to the viewer's imagination and participation. By blurring the boundary between artist and audience, these radical “anti-films” seek to turn every spectator into a creator, and cinema into an unfinished act of creation without limits.
“Cinema is an art, for God's sake!”"
— MAURICE LEMAÎTRE, Le Film est déjà commencé ? (Has the Film Already Started?)
Maurice Lemaître, born in Paris in 1926, is an artist, painter, filmmaker, writer and libertarian poet. In 1950, he joined the avant-garde Lettrist group, where, that same year, he founded a political journal : the “ Front de la Jeunesse ” (Youth Front) as well as a literary and pictorial journal, “ Ur ”, which remains the “ Minotaure ” of Lettrism.
