Description
The THE FORMATIVE YEARS project highlights and makes accessible seven early experimental works by Heinz Emigholz, which provided decisive impetus to the international experimental film movement of the 1970s and 1980s. They are among the rare German experimental works to have achieved lasting international renown.
In HOTEL, Heinz Emigholz breaks the temporal linearity of shots by fragmenting them, then assembling them according to recognizable patterns. In DEMON, Emigholz, for his part, gives words a spatial dimension, thus approaching Mallarmé's dream of showing that language can be an object, a counterpart.
