Description
The project THE FORMATIVE YEARS brings together for the first time seven early short films by Heinz Emigholz, which gave decisive impulses to the international experimental cinema movement of the 1970s and 1980s and are among the few German experimental works to have attracted lasting international interest.
The films ARROWPLANE, TIDE, and three episodes of SCHENEC-TADY each consist of thousands of photographs taken according to a predetermined plan, frame by frame, using a Bolex camera on 16mm film. Human vision is replaced by a succession of images, the product of a machine that isolates individual images, records them, and recomposes them during projection in the context of an artificially generated movement sequence.
