Description
Each work by Michael Snow, whether it involves painting, sculpture, video and film, through photography and holography, drawing, books and music, invites us to an experience of questioning and contemplation, born from an oscillation between what is represented, the process and the material. Rameau's Nephew by Diderot (Thanx to Dennis Young) by Wilma Schoen illustrates his research in the field of visual arts as well as sound: For me, it's a true talking film, constructed from the inside, that is to say from the photogram and the recorded syllable. The echoes that resonate within it concern language, representation in general, representation in sound cinema, culture, civilization. The composition, which uses the eye and the ear, attempts to incite both halves of the brain to recognize each other.
"Rameau's Nephew etc. by Michael Snow drives me crazy, makes my head spin. I need its particular regenerative madness at least once a month."
— Amy Taubin, The Soho Weekly News, 1977
