SLEEPLESS NIGHTS STORIES (2011) 112'
Description
"Sleepless Nights Stories originated from my reading of The Thousand and One Nights. Although my stories, unlike the Arabian tales, are all drawn from real life, they too venture at times elsewhere, beyond the daily routine of reality.
There are about twenty different narratives in my film. Their protagonists are all good friends of mine, and I myself am an integral part of these stories. The narrator of the Arabian tales was also part of his own narratives. Some of the people in the film will be familiar to you, others not. The fact that you recognize some of them has no bearing on the stories: after all, we all recognize John Wayne or Annette Bening, but in their stories, they are no longer the people you think you know.
The subjects of these stories cover a wide range of emotions, places, personal anxieties, anecdotes. These are not big stories, not for the big screen: they are all great personal stories… And yes, you will also find a few provocations in them… But that's me, a "me" among others. The very question of what a story is is itself a provocative question."
