Description
"The central idea is the impossibility of fixing film. Film is always in a state of flux. The 'real' images at the beginning progressively disintegrate. The gelatin layer containing the chemicals dissolves. In the end, only the unleashing of the elements remains."
— Jürgen Reble
Jürgen Reble, former member of the filmmakers' group "Schmelzdahin" (dissolved in 1989), devotes himself to exploring the reactions of film stock to bacteria, weather conditions, and chemical treatments during and after development. Passion, Reble's first solo feature film, is a hand-developed film evoking creation, evolution, and destruction. Reble also creates performances in which he develops and decomposes films projected in loops in real time using chemicals and acids.
