Description
"Presenting the artist as a rock star" sums up the editorial line of the Pleased to meet you collection, which aims to offer the most intimate and unprecedented approach to the artist and their work. The choice of the "magazine" format, with its freer and more relaxed structure than a catalogue, is decisive in fostering proximity and empathy. Each issue features: an essay, an original interview with the artist, illustrated pages like in press magazines reproducing studio views, shooting scenes, preparatory documents, as well as a dense and dynamic portfolio, treated as a journey through the work.
The collection builds, issue by issue, a genealogy of artists whose work was constructed on the margins, rare figures celebrated by restricted circles, sometimes described as artists' artists: William S. Burroughs, Dorothy Iannone, Richard Jackson, Steve Gianakos or André Cadere... The tenth issue is devoted to Marie Losier, whose work—energized by her private life—blends drawings and films, installations and sets, into a euphoric and generous autofiction.
Internationally recognized, Marie Losier is regularly invited to festivals, her filmed work is the subject of retrospectives, and her drawn work is shown in exhibitions. Yet despite a career spanning over 20 years, no book has traced this epic journey. This publication will therefore fill an editorial gap and undoubtedly satisfy Marie Losier's numerous and fervent audience.
This book aims to provide access both to her filmography through production photographs, to her visual work via reproductions of her drawings and views of her installations, but also to a treasure trove of archives that the artist has carefully established and preserved. Developed in close consultation with Marie Losier, this publication will be the most faithful reflection possible of her thinking and aesthetic universe.
