Description
Born in 1934 in Vienna, Austria, Peter Kubelka invented metric cinema in the late 1950s, which is to cinema what Schoenberg's serial music is to music. His cinematographic work would decisively influence American independent cinema of the 1960s and 70s. In 1966, he made Unsere Afrikareise, his absolute masterpiece, the "first sound film" in cinema history.
Co-founder of the Anthology Archives in New York and the Oesterreichisches Filmmuseum in Vienna, professor at the Staedelschule in Frankfurt, Peter Kubelka has directed the chamber music ensemble Spatium Musicum since 1980 and has regularly given lectures in Europe and the United States for the past twenty years on his conception of cinema, cuisine, and music as art forms.
Two previously unpublished interviews with Peter Kubelka and texts by Jon Kessler, Peter Kubelka, Christian Lebrat, Stefano Masi, and Hermann Nitsch.
