Description
In 1961, American artist and impresario of Lithuanian origin George Maciunas created the avant-garde art movement Fluxus. George - The Story of George Maciunas and Fluxus describes in detail the rise of Fluxus following a sensational tour of "concerts" across Europe in 1962, which continued in New York throughout most of the 1960s and 1970s. During this period, Maciunas transformed Soho's aging industrial buildings into a network of artist lofts, creating one of the first official real estate cooperatives of artist-owned buildings. The life and legacy of Maciunas, recounted by artists of his generation, including Yoko Ono and Jonas Mekas, have sparked debates that remain essential for artists today.
