Paul Jeffrey Sharits (1943-1993), American experimental filmmaker, is one of the main representatives of structural cinema, with a sensual approach to the film medium combining abstraction (pure colors, loops, flicker effects...) and figuration (themes related to violence, illness, psychology, sexuality...). His compositional processes are heavily influenced by his fascination with music. When conceiving his films, he creates graphic scores, which he also considers as drawings in their own right. An interdisciplinary artist, he is also a painter and visual artist, and was associated with the Fluxus movement.
