Description
Comprehensive monograph documenting in texts and images the many facets of the work of a master of American experimental cinema, with a general introduction, several essays, texts by the artist, and interviews.
Paul Jeffrey Sharits (1943-1993), American experimental filmmaker, is one of the principal representatives of structural cinema, with a sensual approach to the film medium combining both abstraction (pure colors, loops, flicker effects...) and figuration (themes related to violence, illness, psychology, sexuality...). His compositional processes are deeply influenced by his fascination with music. When conceiving his films, he created graphic scores, which he also considered as drawings in their own right. An interdisciplinary artist, he was also a painter and visual artist, and was associated with the Fluxus movement.
Edited by Yann Beauvais.
