Description
This isn't Pixar. This isn't Disney. And it's not pretending to be. Anxious Animation brings together six contemporary filmmakers who take us into surreal worlds haunted by delirium and paranoia…
An undisputed master of collage and montage, Lewis Klahr feeds deeply intimate visions from the compost of the collective unconscious, reassembling old magazines, comic books, and cocktail imagery. Complex, poetic, and shot through with loss, Janie Geiser's works both create and deconstruct imaginary worlds through figurines, cut-outs, and found objects, in narratives as enigmatic as they are unsettling.
Jim Trainor's handcrafted animations scrutinize the inner lives of strangely self-aware animals, even as they mate, feed, fight, kill, or die according to instinct. The Bay Area collective—Rodney Ascher, Syd Garon, and Eric Henry—summon diabolical visions through digital virtuosity, accompanied by the musical frenzy of Buckethead and DJ Q-Bert.
