Description
"If we really strive to free ourselves from visual mutilations in cinema and from institutionalized viewing patterns on television, it is not enough to keep pushing boundaries and breaking new visual ground. In addition to the small avant-garde of filmmakers who do this, we need an army of other people who begin to sow and cultivate the plowed lands and who will harvest the fruits for the benefit of those who are still visually undernourished. Werner Nekes, the dean of German experimental cinema, once said that the first trains were more important than the golden stagecoaches. Well, alright, let's use these new means of visual transportation to move forward on the new terrains where the avant-garde has been staking its claims for years."
— Ingo Petzke in a 1975 manifesto
