Description
Gaspar Noé, the arch-provocateur of the French New Extremity movement, responsible for Irréversible and Enter the Void, blurs the lines between reality and fiction in Lux Aeterna, his ode to the suffering and sacrifices inherent in artistic creation.
French cinema icons Charlotte Gainsbourg (Les Fantômes d'Ismaël, Antichrist) and Béatrice Dalle (37°2 le matin, À l'intérieur), playing themselves, portray respectively the lead actress and the director of an experimental film about witches. But as preparations for the shoot progress, the increasingly chaotic production gradually unravels under the weight of egos and buried resentments that resurface, threatening to derail the entire project.
Shot in only five days and largely improvised by an exceptional cast, Lux Aeterna is a powerful and hypnotic experience, an unparalleled sensory assault, which confirms more than ever Noé's position as one of the most incendiary voices in contemporary cinema.
