Description
Image montage was a central aspect of the early history of visual media. As early as the 16th century, techniques such as folding image montage already foreshadowed those used in cinema today. Other examples of early forms of montage include transparencies, visual rebuses, and secret flap books, which direct the gaze toward hidden information. In the myriorama—the thousand-picture show—it is possible to compose landscapes infinitely.
