Description
The painter contemplates his female model – or how voyeurism transforms into culture. An erotic adventure film whose true subject is the viewer himself.
"Der Tag des Malers shows what La Belle Noiseuse refuses to show: the locked-away "Unknown Masterpiece." It is a stroll through the pictorial universe of the painter who directs the gaze toward the unveiled female model. Associations with the artistic worlds of Dürer, Marey, Matisse, Seurat, with Courbet's L'Origine du monde, Duchamp's Étant donnés and many other works may arise – and are even intentional. Der Tag des Malers merges the expressive possibilities of painting, video and computer-generated imagery into film. Unusual modes of representation make this film an adventure of the gaze for the viewer. The art of painting merges into cinema."
