Description
"Des enfants et des ruines. The title says it all: the future articulated with the past. Shot in 16mm against a backdrop of ruins bathed in brilliant light, a mute boy and a girl of few words are the protagonists of this very beautiful cinematic refrain. Added to them is an adult, a disturbing silhouette whose nature remains unknown. Primitive cinema is obviously the great model here, one that powerfully informs each shot: abstraction, emphatic play of contrasts, repetitions, narrative economy. A labyrinthine and bewitching experience, it is ultimately about faith—faith in a cinema that claims mystery, and to which Alain Mazars invites us with conviction."
— Jean-Pierre Rehm, FIDMarseille
"This film [Des enfants et des ruines] deeply impressed me. It is a work on themes and motifs detached from the urgencies of the moment, reaching deep layers of our social and cultural experience where they can dialogue with allegories, myths, obscurities—in short, everything that constitutes the substrate of our anxieties, our desires, and our hopes."
— Frédéric Tachou, FCDEP
