Description
Josephine Massarella's films cover a vast territory, ranging from durational, performance-based works that connect everyday experiences to ritual and symbol, to aesthetic transformations of landscape and wilderness seen through the camera's eye.
This comprehensive collection traces her beginnings as a student filmmaker at the University of British Columbia in the early 1980s, her maturity as an artist concerned with figure and landscape, and her triumphant return to filmmaking in the 2010s. Massarella's ecstatic, poetic, and ecofeminist cinema explores the relationship between figure and frame, between word and image, between material reality and fleeting experience.
