Description
Born in Donegal, Ireland, Vivienne Dick moved to New York in 1975. There she joined a group of filmmakers associated with the musical and aesthetic movement known as "No Wave." Shot primarily in Super 8, the films Dick made during this period feature many key figures of the New York No Wave movement, such as Lydia Lunch, Pat Place, James Chance, and Ikue Mori.
Drawing on the spirit of 1960s underground filmmakers, her work reveals an interest in individual transgression, urban life, kitsch, and popular culture. Multilayered and open-ended, her films are constructed from a feminine perspective, driven by critical reflection on social conditioning and sexual politics.
