Description
Almost all of his films are reflections on the places where he has lived or worked. (M = Manhattan; Fenster and Change = Brunswick; River Colors = Chao Phraya, Sisom = Bangkok. But also On Ludlow In Blau = New York are part of it). They can therefore, with some justification, also be classified as alternative documentaries. "Alternative" in the contemplative and poetic sense, as documents on an artificial reality, never determined by ideological viewpoints, but by the expressiveness of his visions and the logic of their sequential order (River Colors, Poetry and Reggae…). Janetzko prefers to observe surfaces, the topography of things which, in turn, often lend themselves to increasingly meditative visions. Meditative visions that can be experienced at different levels while watching his films (particularly in Change). To reach these imagined surfaces, he has often had to push the limits of available technology: from direct in-camera shooting (Fenster), through the optical printer (SN), to digital post-production on analog images (Sisom) and back to chemistry (and scotch tape) (Axe). One can even argue that he made the very first experimental film shot in RAW and 4K (Arnos Tonlabor).
