Description
Fanaticism, the obstinate and aggressive pursuit of fixed objectives or convictions erected as absolute values, without any nuanced consideration of global reality, whether it be personal fanaticism in the fight for one's supposed rights or fanatical commitment to an idea. Fanaticism neutralizes introspection and any external objection, remaining blind to foreign points of view and/or intolerant. According to Simone de Beauvoir, through fanaticism, humanity becomes a means in service of an end. Fanaticism can expand to become a mass movement of a political, national or religious nature, and the totalitarian worldview considers it a positive quality.
