Description
CONDITIONED is a DVD compilation of eight experimental films and video art works from Turkey, exploring the intellectual conditioning of children and adolescents, both through the education system and contemporary Turkish society as a whole. Through a diversity of styles and approaches, each of these works alludes to the conditioning of youth, whether through the seemingly innocent daily repetitions of the national anthem ("The First Ones" by Hatice Güleryüz), more violent military methods ("Origin" by Erkan Özgen), or social injustice ("Our Village" by Şener Özmen). From the private sphere ("A Young Girl Is Growing Up" by Ferhat Özgür) to public spaces ("On the Thin Ice" by Burçak Kaygun), multiple processes unfold, subtly or directly, through the women's prison featured in "Koro" by Güldem Durmaz or the school in "Where Bluebirds Fly" by Berat Işık. Beyond this, the program offers a reflection on the impact of the world and the formation of the individual, notably with Ethem Özgüven's video "Delirium," which confronts the mechanisms of consumer society and their psychological consequences.
