Description
"Son of a Polish family, emigrated and then wandering across Europe, Boris Lehman was born during the war in Lausanne, where his parents had taken refuge, in transit. More than forty years later, having become a filmmaker in Brussels, carrying a few memories (photos, letters), he returns to explore places, registers, newspapers from the period, reels of the Ciné-Journal, obsessed with the need to know whether he can extract from a house, an old witness, the synagogue, the Jewish cemetery, a faded image, the roots of his identity."
— Freddy Buache
"Does a cinema that films in the first person still exist today? In a production that inexorably conforms to the standardized American model, works that dare to embrace subjectivity in writing and themes are becoming increasingly rare. In this reductive context, Belgian filmmaker Boris Lehman appears as a dinosaur of the seventh art."
— Marcel Leiser
"The object of your work may lie there: like me, but in an entirely different way, you seek through cinema to gather the proofs of your existence."
— Richard Dindo, letter to Boris Lehman
