Description
This collection brings together the main texts devoted to cinema by the Grand Jeu group. At first glance, one might have thought the group relatively indifferent to matters of the screen, yet the correspondence of Vailland, Daumal and Lecomte actually testifies to a frequent and keen curiosity for what they carefully avoid calling the 7th art. Other members of the group, like Pierre Audard and André Delons, write about films regularly, and with passion, in avant-garde magazines or, like Maurice Henry, in the mass-circulation press… The Grand Jeu's attitude does not fundamentally differ from that of Breton's friends, and also of numerous artists and poets. The small group's passion for the screen was shorter-lived than that of the Surrealists, their elders, but no less demanding and fierce.
