La Région centrale lasts a little over three hours, while its subject is as minimal as can be: a landscape, rather arid, a desert in fact, always filmed from the same spot, "central." We see mostly rocky ground, small pebbles but also large boulders, a few blades of grass and, in the distance, mountains and a lake. All in very subtle gradations of brown, muted green and gray, counterbalanced by the blue of the sky and the brightness of the sun. And that's it? Yes, that's it. Unity of place, unity of action and unity of time: the film begins one day and ends at dawn the next.
