Description
Lev Kuleshov's legendary "constructivist western," adapted from a short story by Jack London, was a high point of 1920s Soviet cinema and one of the most popular films of its era. After discovering gold in the Yukon, a group of prospectors descends into murder. The survivors face an existentialist choice.
The DVD presents a new transfer of the film along with a contemporary soundtrack composed by Austrian musician Franz Reisecker. As a supplement, it includes the only surviving fragment of Vas̆a znakomaja, a Kuleshov film with sets designed by avant-garde artist Aleksandr Rodc̆enko.
