Description
Jeff Keen's singular and inventive cinema traversed the various currents from which it took shape: the counterculture of the 1960s, punk and beyond. Creating works of immediate power and raw intensity across multiple formats (though he always favored 8mm: more provocative, more disposable, less marketable), this World War II veteran, self-taught artist and pioneer of radical British independent cinema continues to elude categorization. The more than forty films presented here span the diverse periods of Keen's output and reveal the astonishing and tireless talent of a unique creator who never shied away from addressing sexuality or war, nor from experimenting with multi-screen projections, visceral soundtracks and unapologetically brutal animation techniques. Truly inspired and inspiring, this collection testifies to the irrepressible force embodied by Jeff Keen.
