Description
The multimedia and interactive DVD "Seeing / Hearing / Speaking" consists of two parts: a new video titled "Seeing / Hearing / Speaking" and three "other related videos" made between 1978 and 2001. "Based on a sentence from French philosopher Jacques Derrida's seminal book, La Voix et le Phénomène (translated by David B. Allison), I made my first video Talking to Myself in 1978 (revised in 2001). This video was praised by Professor Allison as "the strongest and most pertinent affirmation one can draw from Derrida's work." The sentence I quoted, which Derrida calls "phenomenological essence," is: I hear my own voice at the same moment I speak."
