Description
This DVD is made with "myself" as both the sole object and material of the video, with the exception of two performances with Akiko Iimura. The video is not simply a document of performance, but a video art work specifically conceived for this medium, incorporating the video apparatus—camera and monitor included—as an integral part of the performance. It also questions the identity of self in video, in a tension between words and images, and raises the questions: who is "I" and what does "I" mean?
"Iimura compares the dialectics of image and language, of live video image and viewer, as well as of "subject" and "object", to the complex principle of Yin and Yang."
— Slavko Kacunko
"In a resolutely post-modern approach, Iimura inscribes his theoretical procedures through the self of the artist and the viewer, in a dialectic of linguistic discovery."
— John G. Hanhardt
