A CHAIR & BLINKING (1970) 8'
Description
One of the first minimalist videos using blinking effects was made in Tokyo in the early 1970s as a two-part work. In the first part, a chair and its shadow blink in synchronization with white noise played on a television monitor. In the second, another video shows blinking eyes: positive and negative images overlap as the eyelids open and close rapidly. At the same time, "blindness" effects produced by fast-forwarding the tape successively accelerate and slow down the image in synchronization with the sound.
