Description
In response to an increasingly technological world, there has been an explosion in "handmade" films—works created by working directly on the film material itself. This compilation presents recent works employing a range of artisanal techniques, including photograms, hand processing, cameraless animation, and collage.
"Thoughtfully conceived and entertaining, this collection makes an excellent introduction to abstract short films. Repetition of images, animation, home movies, playful use of color, photograms, dance, and various plays of light offer moments of imagination and reflection in turn, bearing witness to a pure appreciation of cinema. These films represent a valuable asset for any class or collection dedicated to film studies, and will be useful to researchers seeking a diversity of non-digital examples of experimental styles. An excellent study guide accompanies the DVD. Highly recommended."
