Description
Rose Lowder was born in 1941, in Miraflores, near Lima, Peru. After studying painting and sculpture in workshops and art schools in Lima and London, she worked as a visual artist while also working as an editor in the film industry. From 1977 onwards, she focused her research on the visual aspect of the cinematographic process and explored questions of perception. She is co-founder of a collection of films and documents, the Archives du Film Expérimental d'Avignon (AFEA), and taught at the Université de Paris I.
She works directly on film, frame by frame, and constructs her films essentially during shooting. They are often very short and consist mainly of images filmed in her immediate environment, which she organizes in a precise and structured manner.
