Description
This journal was made between 2005 and 2009 on four continents. It is a subjective journey through experimental approaches and procedures to show the scope of this research and pay tribute to filmmakers who contribute to the history of cinema: Jonas Mekas (USA), Peter Kubelka (Austria), Boris Lehman (Belgium), Joseph Morder (France), Peter Tscherkassky (Austria) and Guy Sherwin (UK), among many others. These alternative paths lead us to production sites and distribution networks created specifically for experimental films.
"Cinémas de Traverse fills a void and functions like maps: it provides lines of measurement and orientation; it is up to us to discern the intensities of what continues to be created in this continent still so little explored by documentary cinema."
— Gabriela Trujillo, writer and researcher
"The essay by Devaux and Amarger highlights the practical and intellectual resources, questions the citizen-practitioners of this 'new Republic,' by setting out, subjectively, to the four corners of the world, on the trail of experimental cinema."
— Raphaël Bassan, film critic and historian
