In the late 1960s, Maurice Lemaître emerged as a precursor by running a film club where numerous avant-garde films, then invisible, were screened alongside his own, from Man Ray to Germaine Dulac via Len Lye or Ian Hugo. During the same period, he conceived and directed eight "Lettrist" films, true cinematic gems, which placed him among the major artists of his time.
