Description
In the 1990s, James Benning's films were primarily characterized by an ongoing exploration of the relationship between image and word (spoken or written). This two-disc boxset presents the two key works that represent the apex of this "text-image film" period. In Deseret Benning (via the New York Times) traces the history of the Mormon state of Utah through spectacular black and white and color images. Art and landscape become one in Benning's subsequent film, Four Corners, which is both a tribute to the famous region of the United States where four states converge and a portrait of four very different artists.
