Description
In the mid-1970s, James Benning's first feature films attracted critical attention, establishing him as a leading figure of the "New Narrative Movement." In films such as 11x14 and One Way Boogie Woogie, he combines structural analysis of image, sound, and narrative with autobiographical traces, as well as an almost "classical" interest in composition, color, light, and landscape. This 2-DVD set presents 11x14 (1977), one of the central films of the 1970s American avant-garde, in a restored version. Also included are Benning's recurring looks at his hometown Milwaukee at three distinct moments: One Way Boogie Woogie (1978), 27 Years Later (2005), and One Way Boogie Woogie 2012. Documents on change and transience.
