"Making films has always been for me a journey into the unknown. Each new film has its own trajectory. It can start with an idea and upon seeing the first rushes, the images tell me where to go or not to go. There is always a kind of tension between me and the photographed material. Something emerges. If all goes well, if the images connect with me and if I can almost hear the sound they want, there is a terrible joy that runs through me, body and mind. Incredible. To sum up: my approach to filming is first and foremost organic. Films are an intellectual and emotional synthesis filtered through the material. I try to let the images flow freely to the surface."
