"Alain Mazars's cinematic work is at once richly varied and strongly coherent. He is one of the filmmakers most consistently and authentically drawn toward the Far East. Alain Mazars, born in 1955, was a fellow at the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid from 1984 to 1986. A co-founder of ACID, he works as much in research-oriented cinema (so-called "experimental" or "alternative" film) as in fiction or documentary. Always in search of new aesthetic forms, he has become a master of these various "genres." He has received numerous marks of recognition: Directors' Fortnight (Cannes 1990), awards at renowned festivals…
