This book was published at the occasion of the retrospective presented in the Museum of Modern Art, George Pompidou Center in december 1985. It is about the priviledged relationship which Paris maintains with the international avant-garde cinema. Paris is the unifying subject of the films and it ensures the coherence of the ensemble through all the sixty years of cinema: from 1923 to 1983.
