ISAO YMADA started his artistic career by working at Shuji Terayama's theatre company, Tenjousajiki. In 1974, he was appointed as an artistic crew for Terayama's feature-film, "Denen ni Shisu" (Pastoral: To Die in the Country). As a film director, Yamada's release includes "Anmonaito no sasayaki wo kiita" (I’ve heard the ammonite’s murmur:1992), "Jouhatsu Tabinikki" (The Soul Odyssey: 2003) based on the essay by Yoshiharu Tsuge, and "Shutorumu undo Doranku" (Sturm und Drang, 2014). In addition to his work in cinema, Yamada is also known for his work in manga, painting and graphic design. The calligraphic fonts used in his experimental films are all by his own hand writings. Yamada Isao DVD ☆Contours of Shadow
This volume Includes Yamada’s first private film, "Amorphous diary" (1985) and his first film of shadow which became the signature of his future experimental films.
"Apart from the contours of the body, I feel that people have another kind of contours, the contours of the person’s psyche. The contours of his/her psyche represent a person's whole personality. It is a contour that expresses the person's undeniable identity at a deeper level than what can be traced in a form. The contours of Yamada that I see are not emotional at all."
