ISAO YMADA started his artistic career by working at Shuji Terayama's theatre company, Tenjousajiki. In 1974, he was appointed as an artistic crew for Terayama's feature-film, "Denen ni Shisu" (Pastoral: To Die in the Country). As a film director, Yamada's release includes "Anmonaito no sasayaki wo kiita" (I’ve heard the ammonite’s murmur:1992), "Jouhatsu Tabinikki" (The Soul Odyssey: 2003) based on the essay by Yoshiharu Tsuge, and "Shutorumu undo Doranku" (Sturm und Drang, 2014). In addition to his work in cinema, Yamada is also known for his work in manga, painting and graphic design. The calligraphic fonts used in his experimental films are all by his own hand writings. ”The shining North Star in the independent film world. The Ginga Gahosha Film Club,- the legendary group of visual beauties-
Between dream and reality, there were visual beauticians who engraved invisible "atmospheres" and "memories" onto film.”
To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the release of their first film, "An incident of night" (1977), and the 30th year since Minatotani passed away, all Gingagahou-sha films were digitised. The Gingagahou-sha Film Club was formed in Sapporo in 1977 by Isao Yamada and manga artist Yumekichi Minatotani. The two artists were much inspired by the literary works of Inagaki Tadaho and Miyazawa Kenji, and transfered idea and images into their own visual expressions by means of 8 mm and 16 mm films.
