Resulting from activism to the formation of a study on a singular but fragile art instrument, the Afea (Archive experimental Avignon movie) has just celebrated a quarter-century of existence. Quite a long period for the establishment of a specific location dedicated to a medium that deserves to be commemorated. Offering a nearly exhaustive iconography of both collections and films of a few filmmakers who have become entrepreneurs of this scene, using the moving image, while outlining a sort of theoretical and historical reflection (a tool for understanding a passionate filmmaking of experimentation), this work participates in this rite by analysing some of the scope and issues of engagement with a constituent practice of modern art .
